Who’s Using Get Reading Right?

Two Decades. Thirty Countries. One Mission.

For over 20 years, Get Reading Right has been helping schools teach children to read using systematic synthetic phonics. What began as a small Australian publisher has grown
into a trusted resource for over 1,900 schools across 30 countries — from suburban classrooms in Sydney to remote island communities in the Pacific.

What We Do

We publish high-quality, evidence-based resources for teaching reading and spelling through systematic synthetic phonics. Our materials are designed by
experienced educators and grounded in the science of reading — the body of research that tells us exactly how children learn to decode written language.

Our resources include structured lesson plans, decodable readers, word lists, and teacher manuals that give educators everything they need to implement a phonics-first
approach with confidence. Whether you’re a classroom teacher new to synthetic phonics or a school leader rolling out a whole-school literacy strategy, we provide the tools and the guidance to make it work.

Who We Work With

Australian Government Schools

The majority of our schools are Australian government primary schools — teachers and leadership teams who have actively sought out evidence-based reading instruction. With
over 1,200 schools across every state and territory, Get Reading Right is one of the most widely adopted synthetic phonics programmes in Australia. Many of these schools started with a single teacher trialling our
resources, and the results spoke for themselves — improved reading outcomes, more confident students, and a clear structure that teachers love to teach with.

Independent & Faith-Based Schools

From leading independent colleges to Catholic, Christian, and Jewish schools, Get Reading Right is used across a wide range of non-government schools in Australia and
internationally. These schools often adopt our programme school-wide, embedding systematic synthetic phonics into their early years curriculum as a core part of their literacy strategy. Whether it’s a large grammar school or a small parish
school, the approach is the same: structured, explicit, and effective for every child.

Remote & Regional Australia

Some of the work we’re most proud of happens in the places that need it most. In the Northern Territory, our resources reach remote community schools and
pre-schools where English may be a child’s second or third language. In Far North Queensland, we work with schools in Mount Isa, the Torres Strait Islands, and Cairns, where Indigenous and multilingual students benefit
enormously from the structured, explicit approach that synthetic phonics provides. These aren’t always easy environments to teach in, but the systematic nature of Get Reading Right gives teachers a clear path forward — and gives students a
real chance at literacy.

Transforming a Nation: Our Partnership with Fiji

One of our most remarkable partnerships is with the Fijian education system. Get Reading Right resources have been distributed to
over 650 government schools across Fiji — reaching children in cities, coastal villages, and remote island communities throughout the Pacific.

This isn’t a pilot programme. It’s a nationwide commitment to transforming how Fijian children learn to read in English. For a small
Australian publisher, knowing that our synthetic phonics resources are helping to reshape literacy outcomes for an entire country is both humbling and deeply motivating — and it’s proof that evidence-based reading instruction works
everywhere.

International Schools Across Asia

Hong Kong is our largest international market, with over 60 schools using Get Reading Right — a mix of international schools and local schools with
English-medium instruction. In mainland China, international schools use our programme alongside schools in Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, and the Philippines. For these classrooms, teaching children to read in English
requires a structured, phonics-first approach that doesn’t assume English is spoken at home. Our resources are designed to be explicit and sequential — exactly what multilingual classrooms need.

The United Kingdom & Beyond

In the United Kingdom, where systematic synthetic phonics has been part of the national curriculum since 2007, over 40 schools have chosen Get Reading Right
alongside established UK programmes — a strong endorsement of the quality and rigour of our resources. We also work with schools in the United States, Canada, New Zealand, and
Ireland, where the science of reading movement is driving schools toward evidence-based phonics instruction. Wherever English is being taught, our approach works.
